Some designs have no definition (a Reflector), others have a single flow of definition, and there are those that have two, three or even four different areas of definition or splits in their design. Understanding how our energy flows within and how it connects with others helps us understand our unique way of being, processing information and being in relationship. Channels play a significant role in determining an individual's Type and Authority, two foundational elements in Human Design.
Your inner authority.
These people have strong sacral energy from their sacral chakra, compelling them to extend their energy and create. But that fire easily gets depleted when Generators don't know how to tune into their sacral energy. There are five distinct "types" in human design (or four, depending who you ask—which we'll get into).

Personally, I went from a confused, overwhelmed, broke and burnt out entrepreneur, to building a profitable and spacious business without the burnout. And it was primarily because through Human Design, I learned how to cut out the noise around me and trust and lead myself in so many areas of my life, including my business and my relationships. We live in this information age and hustle culture where life is moving so incredibly fast. Many of us are pushed to work past our physical limits, we’re flooded with information and handed down narratives and scripts on how we “should” live life or the pace that we should live life.
The Life Force: The Channels
The Kitchens environment is ideal for those who find nourishment and creativity in domestic settings or places where transformation occurs, be it in the literal kitchen, workshops, or studios. The Possibility perspective involves seeing the world in terms of potential and opportunities. Individuals with this perspective are often optimistic and forward-thinking, always considering what could be. They may excel at brainstorming, innovating, and dreaming big, often inspiring others with their enthusiasm and expansive thinking. They often view life as a series of opportunities to explore and are comfortable with the uncertainty that comes with this. On the other hand, Inner Vision refers to an individual's inner awareness or intuition.
This larger Program is part of the broader vision contained within the Human Design System that is prophetic, profound and congruent with current scientific understanding. It may seem odd at first to speak of a person in terms of ‘mechanics’ as it sounds rather like a term we would use when talking about a car. However, the founder of Human Design was very practical and the term carries with it a definitive limitation of us being designed in a specific and non-negotiable way. And again, as Brafman adds, as you're digging through your chart, take notice of the qualities that perhaps don't sound totally right. "In human design, I think the best nuggets are when things don't resonate because it means we've been conditioned out of a natural state of being—so we can get curious as to why," she says. Their life theme is satisfaction, which will be achieved by "continually responding to things that are a 'yes' for them," she explains.
By understanding and embracing your unique Human Design, you can unlock your true potential and live a life of purpose, authenticity, and fulfillment. Recognizing our Not-Self theme can be a significant step towards deconditioning and returning to our true self. It requires self-awareness and observation, noticing when these emotional states arise, and then tracing them back to situations or decisions that are not in alignment with our Type's strategy and authority. Over time, awareness and understanding of our Not-Self theme can serve as a powerful tool for personal growth and transformation. Our 200+ page custom Human Design Life Blueprints are designed to provide you with a powerful tool for self-discovery, personal growth, and transformation. We believe that understanding your Human Design is the key to unlocking a life of purpose, fulfillment, and authentic self-expression.
It shows us potentials we may not be aware of and also delineates what is totally inappropriate for our nature, despite what we may have believed. Generators, for example, have a "sacral authority," which can also be thought of as a "gut reaction." So, when Brafman describes doing things that "are a yes" it's quite literally all about what your gut tells you. (If it's not a full-bodied, feel-it-in-your gut yes, it's probably a no.) Other types may have an emotional authority, an ego authority, or a lunar cycle authority.

It allows for greater alignment with one's true self, leading to less resistance, more ease, and ultimately, fulfillment in life. The Strategy is connected to one's Type and provides guidance on how to interact with the world. For example, the Strategy for Generators is to "wait to respond," while for Projectors, it's "wait for the invitation." Following one's Strategy can lead to fewer resistances and a smoother journey through life. The energy of a Gate is expressed when it forms a Channel with another Gate, connecting two Centers.
They provide practical guidance on how to navigate life decisions in alignment with one's unique design. The Centers also connect to each other through Channels, creating a unique energetic pattern in each individual. This pattern can reveal one's innate abilities and challenges, ultimately serving as a guide for decision-making and personal growth. For instance, a defined Throat Center represents a consistent ability to communicate, while an undefined Throat Center may adapt communication style based on the environment. Understanding whether a Center is defined or undefined can provide profound insights into behavioral patterns and potential vulnerabilities or strengths.
Zarki experimented with three overall designs, although the possibilities are quite literally endless, much like how no two plants grow the exact same way, or no two fingerprints look the same. Like mapping your astrology birth chart, the human design chart is calculated with your birthday, birth time, and place of birth. Each of the 36 Channels carries a distinct archetype or theme that reveals specific characteristics, talents, and life themes of an individual. For instance, the Channel of Recognition (Channel 20-10) is about the recognition of values and the drive to act upon what one values. The Channel of The Beat (Channel 9-52) is related to concentration, focus, and the ability to process details. These perspectives are not mutually exclusive, and individuals can encompass elements of multiple perspectives.

When a center is colored in (defined), it indicates a consistent and reliable function in that area of life. Conversely, an undefined center (white) means that its function is adaptable and can be influenced by external energies. Reflectors are without definition and are just over one percent of the population.
